Karen Carroll, CNM, MS has been serving families as a Certified Nurse-Midwife in the Tidewater Area since 2004. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Old Dominion University and, when she graduated, began caring for infants in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters in Norfolk. Her experience there sparked a desire to provide holistic perinatal care in hopes of improving outcomes for women and future generations, so she transitioned to labor & delivery. Karen earned her Master’s in Science with a concentration in Midwifery through the distance-learning program at Philadelphia University, completing her practicum at WomanCare Centers and DePaul’s Center for Birth. She considers herself truly blessed to have returned “home” to the supportive environment of WCC in 2014. Karen is mother to an ambitious son and an exquisite daughter, -in-law to their respective spouses, Meemaw of two wiley grand-dogs and one irresistible grandson (the latter born into the hands of one of our midwives!), dog-mom to two of her own four-leggeds, and eagerly awaits conception of another grandbaby. She enjoys her role at Ascent Church (Virginia Beach) and is currently following the prompt to return to school by pursuing a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling through Regent University. Karen feels humbled to be placed in the lives of women and families, to bear witness to strength beyond imagination and to have the opportunity to speak encouragement into the crossroads of life.
