Tammie started her career in the medical field as a unit clerk on a telemetry floor, and then as a telemetry technician while attending nursing school near Chicago, Illinois. She graduated magna cum laude with her bachelor’s degree in nursing from Aurora University in 1996. After graduating, she moved to Ft. Bragg, NC to get married and begin a long career as a military wife and Registered Nurse. Tammie spent 15 years working as a Registered Nurse in a variety of settings, including the emergency department, adult intensive care, pediatric intensive care, children’s emergency department, and on a helicopter as a flight nurse. She loved bedside nursing and never saw herself not at the bedside providing direct care to people. For that reason, when she decided to return to school for her master’s degree, the transition to Certified Nurse Midwife seemed the natural path to follow. In 2014, she graduated from Frontier Nursing University and began providing care for women as a Certified Nurse Midwife after passing her board certification exam in early 2015.
Tammie states it is a joy to provide care for women, both in pregnancy and outside of pregnancy. To walk with a woman down the path to motherhood is an amazing journey that she is honored to be a part of. Still, she longed to be able to do more and to be able to provide care to whole families throughout their lifespan. In 2019, Tammie returned to Frontier University for a post-master’s certificate as a Family Nurse Practitioner in 2021.
Tammie has lived primarily in Alaska since 2011, but recently relocated to Virginia to be near her oldest daughter and watch her grandbabies, Ella and Charlie, grow up. Tammie is the mother of 8 children, 2 boys and 6 girls. She enjoys spending time with her family, camping, hiking, canoeing, and essentially anything outdoors. Tammie is thrilled to be joining the team at WomanCare Centers and looks forward to getting to know you.
